Jessie Simms

What's your name and can you tell me a little about yourself?

Hello! My name is Jessie Simms. When I moved to Memphis, TN straight out of college, I gained weight. I worked out, but did not care what I was eating. I told myself that the scale number going up meant I was gaining muscle. Then, I decided that working out was just making me gain weight, and I had no control over my body. I became defeated. I tried to eat “healthier” by eating at home, but I was still eating pizza and pizza rolls while washing it down with a beer or three. Then, I decided to give up. For four months I ate fast food for almost all of my meals. Chick-Fil-A, pizza, and alcohol became staples in my diet. During this time, I also found out I would be moving to Jackson, MS for my husband’s employment. With the excitement of moving, my health was the least of my concerns. It was not until I weighed myself for the first time in months that I began to see I had a real problem. I immediately began looking up what I could do to lose weight, but never acted until after the move.

How did you hear about me?

The second week living in Jackson, MS, I tried a free Crossfit class. I saw people with amazing results online, so I should be able to get the same, right? I went to my first class, and I fell in love with it. I signed up immediately, but I was also terrified the number on the scale would go up even more. Then, I found out that Shawn Dube offered nutritional coaching. I immediately signed up to talk with him about my goals and concerns.

What is the reason that you reached out?

My main concerns going were my eating habits, but the more Shawn taught me about nutrition, the more issues I began addressing. These issues include: sleep habits, stress management, anxiety, self-confidence, and mood management.

How was your experience?

It was a slow, but powerful process Shawn walked me through. My diet began addressing each concern. Through daily interactions with Shawn, whether it was in person, talking on the phone, or through text message, I began to overcome my weight and other issues. I never realized how my nutrition affected every aspect of my life.

What type of results did you accomplish?

From beginning to now, I feel like a whole new person. I have lost a significant amount of fat on my body, gained muscle, learned a lot about nutrition, and I am happy. I also crave healthy foods. The craving of French fries and pizza has been replaced with apples and salmon.

What would you say to someone thinking about joining my nutrition coaching program?

If you are thinking about working with Shawn, I say go for it. He helped me change my habits. I have been without him for about two months as I write this, and I am still seeing consistent changes and results. I feel like I have the tools to continue my journey and reach my goals. I still think about where I would be without deciding to start this journey with Shawn. What if I had not started when I did? Where would I be? Start today, and start with Shawn Dube.

What was your favorite thing about working with me?

My favorite thing about working with Shawn is how easy he made it seem. It was all slow changes and at MY pace. We started by me logging everything that went into my body for a week. From there, he assisted with setting weekly goals and replacing less healthy options for healthier ones. Throughout the weeks, Shawn also gave me little bits of encouragement. For example, he may have seen me log broccoli where French fries might have previously been. I never felt ashamed or judged working with Shawn. He knew what I was going through and knew what struggles I faced. There were even times that he did research on topics I asked about to give me as much knowledge as possible. Shawn cares about me being able to sustain my goals. He never told me I could not have something, and this encouraged me.
